Se7en's Music Video Featuring Lil Kim

This is the first English MV by a Korean artist named Se7en. He's wildly popular in Korea - winning about 9 Korean grammys to date. It's a really good song - I hope his album does well. Maybe if he succeeds some of the other great Korean artists can cross over (TaeYang, Big Bang).

Favorite Video/Song of the Moment

I end up watching this video at least a couple times a day! I love it! It's by this Korean artist Tae Yang (singer from band Big Bang), the song is "Prayer".

I ordered the CD last week - hopefully it will come in soon!

Korean R&B - Group: Big Bang

Here are some videos from the group "Big Bang" - I like them. The video at the bottom is one they did in ENGLISH if you don't like listening to something in a foreign language.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE A KOREAN "BONE THUGS AND HARMONY" STYLE SONG. LOL

THIS ONE IS IN ENGLISH

iTunes -- The Salsa Connection

I've had an iPod for a while but only really used it to upload my CDs onto it. Recently a co-worker of mine copied his whole library of songs onto my iPod and it inspired me to search iTunes for new songs. I actually found about a half dozen really good Salsa songs that I hadn't heard before. Primarily Salsa versions of #1 pop hits from artists famous in Puerto Rico. Salsa is probably my favorite genre of music right now - even though I don't understand too much spanish.

Unfortunately Salsa has gone out of favor with listeners and radio stations now that Reggaeton is on the scene (combination of rap and reggae in spanish). From what I gather, Salsa started to be viewed as old fashion. And my own take on it is Salsa singers rested on their laurels instead of seeking to be creative. So everybody got bored and turned to Reggaeton. So as a result there are less Salsa artists around and it's harder to find good Salsa music. It seems like a really hard task to find more new salsa songs but I am going to try my best.

I'm sure Salsa will make a come back sooner or later. Esp. with the way artists are trying to make the sound more current when creating a Salsa version of their songs. Michael Stuart has always been really good about trying to progress the sound of Salsa with each album he does (that's one of the reasons he's my fav.). Obie Bermudez did some really great Salsa covers - my favorite is his Salsa version fo "Celos". Here is the video of it from YouTube:

Anyway - I hope I am able to find a lot more great Salsa songs on iTunes. Wish me luck!

Sean Lennon, so much like his Dad

Perhaps Julian sounds more like John but Sean looks just like him and his style of music sounds like something John would be creating if he were still alive...

Finally got the John Hoon CDs!!

I ordered my John Hoon (aka Kim Jung Hoon) CDs about a month ago and got them this week! Was excited to get them and finally listen to songs I have not heard before. He's a really great vocalist! I'm trying not to listen to them too much - I don't want to listen to them to the point where I get sick of it. I think he'll be releasing a 3rd album in Japanese soon - he has a new single out called "Sakura Tears", but they do things a little differently there so he really may just be releasing that one song. Who knows.

Here's the video for Sakura Tears:

Here is a video of him from a Korean TV show - this is the portion where they get spoken to in English and they have to figure out what's being said and respond appropriately back in english. It's cute - there is a running joke with the 'english teacher' and John Hoon that he is her husband...

Selena - RIP

The anniversary of slain Tejano superstar, Selena, was yesterday - 13 years since her passing. I am posting videos in her memory...

The first one is of Selena singing "Bidi-bidi Bum-bum"

Actual news coverage of her death from when it happened

Video of pictures of Selena and her husband - I think the song is being sung (and written) by her husband about losing her.

Closeted Paulina Rubio Fan

I recently joined Spiral Frog which allows you to download .wma music files for free. I downloaded all the Paulina Rubio albums they had just to see if they were any good. I liked the singles I've heard of hers but have been resistant in buying her music because her image bothers me. She tries way too hard to be sexy (see video below). But I must admit that I like both albums - she's got great songs and a decent singing voice.

But the fact that I'm a fan.... that'll just be our little secret, ok? lol

Friend Tairon on PR ver. of American Idol

Puerto Rico has their version of American Idol called, "Objectivo Fama", and Michael Stuart's then fiance was the co-host of the show. As a result of knowing her I met one of the contestants named Tairon and have kept in touch with him via IM and e-mail.

Check out one of his performances from when he was on "Objectivo Fama" - he's singing a duet with the girl who ended up winning that season (who happens to be from the Bronx and is now a famous, established singer in PR). They're doing a cover of a Selena duet.

Kim Jeong Hoon aka John Hoon

While watching the Korean show "Princess Hours" I started to research the actors because I liked the show so much. Turns out that one of the actors is a famous singer in Korea and all over Asia. His Korean name is Kim Jeong Hoon but in Japan he goes by John Hoon.

He is actually very good with his R&B vocals. In his Japanese songs he throws in English verses so at least you'll understand some of it. Next time I have some extra moola - I plan to by a couple of his Japanese albums.

Below are some videos of his - take a chance and listen to them. You may not understand all the lyrics - but you will still enjoy the song. I tried to get Brenda to listen to his music but she wasn't open to the idea. :( I guess she's aware of the rare phenomena of instantly bleeding out the ears and going deaf if one tries out new music in a foreign language.
